Domain Name Search

Using our Domain Name Search tool is very easy no matter if you are new to the world of website hosting or if you are an expert in setting up domain names and websites.

Simply visit the Stallion Hosting Domain Name Registration page which can be found by clicking on this link: http://www.stallionhosting.com/domainchecker.html (Opens in a new window)

You will be presented with the Domain Name Search box, simply enter a domain name that you would like to search for to see if it is available. The first step would be to type in the domain name without the extension, for example you would type in this: fishingsite

Note: Do not include www or the domain name extension, next you would tick the domain name extensions that you would like to search, you can tick just one or all the options, depending on what you are searching for.

Then simply enter the Security image and click Look Up.

Once the look up is completed you will be presented with the results and if your domain name is available and you would like to claim it then go ahead and register the name.

Here is a great domain name search tip, if you want to search for a number of domain names then use the Bulk Domain Search (Centre top, white link). This will enable you to bulk search domain names, up to 20 domains at once. Enter the domains in the search field, one per line and do not enter www. or http:// in front, how ever for the Bulk Search Option you would have to include the domain name extension eg:

fishingsite.co.za
fishingsite.com
fishingsite.co.uk

Remember if you have any problems feel free to contact us.

Happy domain name hunting 🙂

What is a Domain Name?

Todays question is, What is a Domain Name?

hspace=This is a fairly common question, and with my easy explanation below you will begin to understand and identify what a domain name is very easily.

Basically a domain name is your online address, like you have a home address or a cellphone number. Your domain name is used as your address to your website, it directs people to your space on the internet.

You might have noticed that the ending of domain names are sometimes different and this is because there are two types of domain name categories, namely:

  • Top level Domains (TLDs) such as .com .net .org .info and others.
  • Then you get the second part which is called the Second Level Domain and these domains are normally used to organize geographic locations and make it easy for people to recognise where the company/website is based. For example South African domains are .co.za which is South African. Such as www.google.co.za, the domain name here will be google.co.za

The domain name has to be associated with the space you are renting on the server from your web host, a bit like how your own house has an address. This is the same with the space on the server – the domain name you use has to point to the website files on the web hosting server that you use. The domain is the part that goes after the www. part which we are all familiar with.

To associate the domain name (or web address) with the space you are renting from the web hosting company, you need to add the domain to your web hosting Cpanel and this will connect (point) the domain name to the hosting.

Domain names can be purchased from a domain registrar company or web hosting company such as Stallion Hosting.
